Zinn’s Late Goal Lifts Richmond Past VMI, Extends Unbeaten Streak to 10

LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore Morgane Zinn deftly poked a loose ball into the net with her right toe to break a scoreless tie in the 81st minute as Richmond defeated VMI 1-0 Thursday at Patchin Field, extending its program-record unbeaten streak to 10 games. At 4-0-3 this season, Richmond has already equaled its total number of wins from 2025 (4-7-7) and 2024 (4-10-3).

The Spiders controlled the chances throughout the opening half, outshooting VMI 6-3 and putting four shots on goal while holding the Keydets without an attempt on frame. Emma Newman forced saves less than a minute into the match and again in the 13th minute before Camden Henard and Avery Nam each tested VMI goalkeeper Maren Ryberg later in the half.

Richmond increased the pressure after halftime, generating 12 shots over the final 45 minutes. The Spiders put three consecutive attempts on goal in a span of 29 seconds in the 61st minute, with Kingsley Hughes, Christina Stamoulacatos and Jess Moylan each forcing saves. Andee Costabile and Logan Jackson later added shots on goal as Richmond continued to search for an offensive breakthrough.

Zinn nearly put Richmond ahead in the 76th minute, but her attempt was cleared away from the goal line by a VMI defender after her shot trickled past the Keydets goalkeeper. Five minutes later, Zinn broke through, slamming home a rebound off a shot from Stamoulacatos to give the Spiders a 1-0 advantage with 9:43 remaining. The goal was Zinn's team-leading third of the season and her second game-winner. Stamoulacatos registered the first assist of her career and has now recorded a point in back-to-back games after scoring the game-winning goal Sunday at Radford, a feat which earned her A10 Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.

Richmond finished with an 18-6 advantage in shots, including an 11-1 edge in shots on goal, and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Spiders outshot VMI 12-3 after halftime.

Veronica Rrapi played the opening 45 minutes in goal before Isabel Seifert took over after halftime. Seifert stopped VMI's only shot on goal in the 48th minute as the duo combined for Richmond's fifth shutout in seven games. Seifert has yet to allow a goal in 315 minutes this season.

Richmond will return home Sunday to face Howard at 3 p.m. at President's Field at River Road. The team's four seniors will be honored in a special pregame ceremony beginning at 2:30 p.m.
