Loncarica Adds Five Freshmen to 2026 Field Hockey Squad

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond field hockey Head Coach Martu Loncarica is excited to announce the addition of five freshmen to the 2026 squad. The quintet joins four graduate transfers added in the spring for nine total new faces to the program.
Mairead Carey, a goalkeeper from Stow, Mass., heads to campus after serving as a four-year varsity starter between the pipes for the Lawrence Academy field hockey program. Carey was named program MVP as a sophomore and senior, while collecting Independent School League All-League honors as a junior and senior. She was also named All-NPSPAC Honorable Mention after her first two prep seasons. With NorthEast Elite club program, Carey was selected for the NEXUS Championships in 2022, 2024 and 2025, as well as a MAX Top 100 in 2024. Back-to-back seasons, Carey was named as a MAX Field Hockey HS New England Region Player to Watch in 2024 and 2025.
Eliana deGennaro, defender/midfielder from Berwyn, Pa., joins the Spiders after a four-year starter for The Episcopal Academy field hockey program as well as The Main Line Field Hockey Club Team Mayhem. deGennaro served as a team captain her senior season as she helped guide the team to a 19-3 overall record, a runner-up finish in the PAISSA, and No. 3 national ranking by MAX Field Hockey. She also helped the program to a 2022 InterAc championship and a second-place finish in the PAISAA. After her senior season in 2025, deGennaro collected PAISAA All-State First Team, InterAc First Team, All-Delco League First Team and MAX Field Hockey All-Region Second Team accolades. She also collected MAX Field Hockey Top 100 in the Class of 2026 while helping her club team to top three finishes at the NCCs in 2021 and 2023, as well as at the U18 NEXUS Championship in 2023. deGennaro helped Mayhem to JPOL first place finish in 2023 as well as at the 2023 NITs.
Julia McAllister, a defender/midfielder from Owings Mills, Md., brings experience as a four-year starter for the Garrison Forest School program as well as with the Warhawks Field Hockey Club. With Garrison Forest, McAllister helped the program to four straight IAAM A appearances, including capturing two conference titles and a semifinal appearance. While playing with the Warhawks, she helped the squad to U19 NITs second place in Tier 1 in 2025 and 2024, as well as top 10 finishes at NCC's in U19 in 2024 and U16 in 2023 and 2022. In 2024, McAllister was a U18 NEXUS Championship Selection, capturing a bronze medal.
Abril Peroni, a midfielder/forward from Córdoba, Argentina, gained experience playing with Club La Tablada for over 10 years, advancing through every age division to the U19 and First Division A squads, and playing for the Córdoba Provincial Team. With Club La Tablada's U19 team, Peroni helped the program make consistent league postseason appearances and reach multiple championship finals. She helped the First Division A team to a runner-up finish at the 2025 Apertura Tournament and a 2026 Salta Preseason Tournament title. Representing the Córdoba Provincial Team at the U16 and U19 levels, Peroni served as a captain of the U16 team and helped the U19 team win the 2025 Argentine Provincial Championship.
Maura Seeger, a midfielder from Bryn Mawr, Pa., joins the squad after a four-year playing career at the Academy of Notre Dame and with the Main Line Field Hockey Club Team Mayhem. With the Academy of Notre Dame, Seeger served as a two-year team captain, and she helped the squad to first place PAISAA titles in 2025 and 2023 and a runner up finish in 2024. Seeger also collected two All-InterAc League first team, two All-Delco, and two All-State First Team honors and a team MVP recognition as a senior. She was also twice selected to participate in the NEXUS Championship and was named to the MAX Field Hockey Top 100.
This quintet joins graduate transfers Luciana Carpenter (Louisville), Maia Dechiario (UCONN), Leah Horwitz (Maryland), and Elen Nichols (Indiana) as new faces to the Spider Field Hockey program for the 2026 season. The season kicks off at Crenshaw Field on Friday, August 28 when the Spiders hosts Queens (NC) University at 5 PM on ESPN+.
