Spider Field Hockey Falls to No. 5 North Carolina, 2-1

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team scored early but fell to No. 5 North Carolina, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Richmond, now 4-2 on the season, opens Atlantic 10 Conference action Friday, Sept. 18 at Crenshaw Field. Game time is set for 5 PM and will be streamed on ESPN+ and internationally on atlantic10.com. The game is free to attend at Crenshaw Field for all fans.
Maia Dechario put the Spiders on the board in the ninth minute of the game, converting on a penalty corner play. Valen Luna Paratore sent the ball in to Freya MacKay for the stick stop and set up for Dechario's first goal as a Spider.
Richmond held North Carolina to two shots and no penalty corners in the first quarter, but UNC came back to fire off eight shots, including a goal in the 26th minute in the second quarter to even the match.
The Spiders were limited to just two shots and two penalty corners in the second half. Amanda Cimillo made seven saves, including five in the second quarter.
North Carolina scored the game-winner in the 33rd minute of action.
