Zinn Scores Twice as Spiders Blank Queens

RICHMOND, Va. — Morgane Zinn scored twice and Kingsley Hughes added a goal as the Richmond women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Queens Sunday at President's Field at River Road.
Zinn put Richmond in front in the sixth minute, slotting the ball past the keeper with her left foot after a header from Jess Moylan caromed off the post. A free kick from Julia Lishia originally found Moylan on her run to the back post.
Just 50 seconds later, Hughes doubled the advantage with her first goal of the season. Hughes ran onto a long clearance from Erika Schneider and found the Queens keeper out of the box, firing a right-footed shot into the goal from 30 yards out.
Richmond carried its 2-0 lead into halftime before Zinn struck again in the 57th minute, finishing off a cross from Emma Newman to complete the first multi-goal game of her Richmond career. It was the first time any Spider had scored at least twice in a game since Newman tied the program record with four goals in the 2025 season opener vs VMI. Sunday's win was also UR's largest margin of victory since that game vs VMI on Aug. 14, 2025, which the Spiders won 5-0.
The Spiders improved to 2-0-1, marking just the third time in the last 25 seasons Richmond has gone unbeaten through its first three games. UR also started 2-0-1 in 2024 and opened 3-0-0 in 2008. The Spiders earned their first win in two all-time meetings with Queens after falling 2-1 on the road last season.
Richmond controlled the match, outshooting Queens 24-8, including a 14-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Spiders held a 15-2 advantage in shots after halftime, finished with an 11-2 edge in corner kicks and controlled 62% of the possession.
Veronica Rrapi made four saves in the opening half before Isabel Seifert stopped the only shot on goal she faced after halftime as the duo combined for Richmond's second shutout in three games.
Richmond will play its first road match of the season Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount St. Mary's.
