Wiley Delivers Clincher as Spiders Rally Past William & Mary

RICHMOND, Va. – Davis Wiley delivered a clutch three-set victory on court one to cap a comeback effort and lift the University of Richmond men's tennis team to a 4-1 win over William & Mary Thursday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. With the win, the Spiders improve to 9-8 on the spring season, while the Tribe fall to 7-11.
How It Happened
William & Mary claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley fell 6-2 at the top spot, while Paxton Pritchard and Sam Rathmanner dropped a 6-3 decision on court two. The third doubles match featuring Charlie Burdell and Grant Cohen was tied 4-4 before going unfinished.
Richmond responded in singles by taking four-straight matches to secure the victory. Cole Brashear got the Spiders on the board first with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win on court five, improving to 7-3 in dual singles this spring.
Sam Rathmanner followed with a strong three-set comeback on court six, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Otto Sewell continued the momentum swing with a gritty three-set win on court four, battling back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision to give Richmond its first lead of the match.
Wiley sealed the team victory on court one, overcoming a first-set deficit to defeat Oliver Hague 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). The senior improved to 13-3 in dual singles this spring and has won five straight completed matches at the top of the lineup.
