Spiders Close Regular Season with Doubleheader Sweep at Home

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team capped its regular season with a pair of victories Saturday at the Westhampton Tennis Complex, defeating Fordham, 4-2, before rolling past Hampden-Sydney, 7-0. With the wins, the Spiders improve to 14-8 on the spring season and finish 2-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
How It Happened
Richmond opened the day by securing the doubles point against Fordham with wins on courts three and one. Charlie Burdell and Grant Cohen set the tone with a 6-3 victory on court three before Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley followed with a 7-5 win at the top spot to clinch the point. The No. 2 pairing of Paxton Pritchard and Sam Rathmanner trailed 5-4 when the match went unfinished.
The Spiders struck first in singles behind a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win from Cole Brashear on court six to extend the lead to 2-0. Fordham answered with wins on courts four and one to even the match at 2-2, but Richmond regained control from there. Paxton Pritchard delivered a straight-set win at No. 3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), before Otto Sewell clinched the match on court five with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory. Charlie Burdell's match on court two went unfinished.
In the afternoon match, Richmond carried its momentum into a dominant sweep of Hampden-Sydney. The Spiders secured the doubles point with wins across all three courts, highlighted by a 6-1 victory from Brashear and Wiley at the top position.
Richmond continued its strong play in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Davis Wiley led the way with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court one, while Brashear followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Nathan Germino, Sam Rathmanner and Grant Cohen each added straight-set wins on courts three, four and five, respectively, before Drew Holland closed the match with a 6-1, 6-1 result on court six.
