FAIRFAX, Va. – Spider Baseball's late inning rally fell short Sunday, April 12, falling 7-5 to George Mason at Spuhler Field in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

Richmond, 19-16 on the season and 8-7 in A-10 action, stays on the road in midweek action heading to Harrisonburg to face James Madison on Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is set for 6 PM and the contest will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Spiders got on the board in the second, taking a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Aidan O'Keefe brought in RJ Johnson Jr. from second for the first run, then Noah Haught laced an RBI base hit through the left side to score Chris Schaller for the second run.

George Mason, now 16-17 on the year and 9-7 in conference play, put up five runs in the third, pushing UR starter Jackson Hinchliffe out of the game. Hinchliffe allowed all five runs on three this, three walks, a hit batter and one strikeout in two and two-third of an inning.

Justin Gay was the first call out of the pen, tossing one and a third of an inning, scattering two hits, allowing two inherited runs and striking out one. Aaron Van Tuyle tossed a scoreless fifth inning, retiring Mason in order. Going back out in the sixth, Van Tuyle allowed two runs on three hits, a walk and getting the first two outs. Bijan Anvar got the final out of the sixth via a strikeout before tossing a scoreless seventh after allowing a hit and two walks.

The Spiders rally in the top of the eighth started with a base hit by Schaller then followed by a double from RJ Rickabaugh to put both in scoring position. UR got the first run of the frame when Schaller scored on a wild pitch. Evan Wilson brought in Rickabaugh with a base hit to left. UR loaded the bases taking advantage of a GMU error, a fielder's choice and hit by pitch, but all were left stranded.

Dom Ruggiero took the mound in the eighth, retiring Mason in order and collecting a strikeout.

The Spiders went down in the top of the ninth in order.
