Spiders Stumble at Home Against Delaware

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Friday morning, falling 4-1 to Delaware at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. With the result, the Spiders move to 6-7 on the spring season, while the Blue Hens improve to 11-3.
How It Happened
Richmond opened the morning with a strong start in doubles play, earning a victory on court one as Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley posted a 6-4 win over Euan Mackenzie and James Sclater. Delaware responded with a 6-3 win on court two to even the point, before clinching the doubles advantage with a tight 7-6 (7-3) victory on court three.
The Blue Hens carried the momentum into singles play, taking three of the four completed matches to secure the team victory. Wiley delivered Richmond's lone point of the match, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tobey Lock at the top spot.
Delaware answered with straight-set wins on courts two and four, as Federico Garbero defeated Charlie Burdell 6-3, 6-3 and Pere Prat topped Otto Sewell 6-2, 7-5 to extend the lead. The match was clinched on court six, where James Sclater outlasted Nathan Germino in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. Two remaining matches on courts three and five were left unfinished.
