RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team swept Atlantic 10 weekly honors for the second-straight week as Davis Wiley was named Player of the Week and Nathan Germino earned Rookie of the Week recognition, the conference announced Wednesday.
Wiley helped lead Richmond to a pair of wins last week, going undefeated in completed matches while competing at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles. He opened the week with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory over The Citadel's Noah Van Dyke to help Richmond secure a 7-0 sweep on the road. Wiley followed with another strong performance in Atlantic 10 play, earning a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 win over Davidson's Gregorio Hidalgo at the top singles position as the Spiders claimed a 4-0 conference victory.
In doubles action, Wiley partnered with Cole Brashear to secure a key 7-6 (7-5) victory at the No. 1 spot against Davidson, helping Richmond capture the doubles point. His performances at the top of the lineup helped the Spiders extend their momentum and improve to 6-6 on the spring season.
Germino contributed a key performance in Richmond's 7-0 win over The Citadel, earning a straight-set victory in his singles appearance. Competing on court six, Germino defeated Anthony Osipov 6-3, 6-2 to improve to 4-2 on the season. He also held a strong position in his Atlantic 10 matchup against Davidson before the match went unfinished, leading 6-2, 5-3 on court six.
The honors mark the second consecutive weekly sweep for Richmond, Wiley's fifth career Player of the Week honor and Germino's second Rookie of the Week recognition.
Richmond will be back in action on Friday, March 20 against Delaware at 10 a.m., before playing host to Georgetown on Saturday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m.
