Smith Tabbed to USILA Team of the Week
03/11/2026 | Men's Lacrosse
Richmond, Va. – For the third week in a row, a University of Richmond men's lacrosse player has been named to the USILA Team of the Week, as Hunter Smith earned the honor following his performance in No. 2 Richmond's 14-10 win over No. 13 Georgetown last Saturday at Robins Stadium.
Smith delivered a standout performance on the defensive end, scoring a goal to break up a Georgetown 10-man ride while leading the Spiders with three caused turnovers and adding four ground balls. His second-quarter goal, assisted by fellow defenseman Michael Farrell, was his first since Feb. 17, 2024 against Virginia and helped spark Richmond in a tightly contested game that was even at 8-8 entering the fourth quarter.
Richmond took control down the stretch, holding Georgetown to just two shots on goal in the final period while outscoring the Hoyas 6-2 to pull away for the victory. Smith currently leads the Spiders with 14 caused turnovers and is tied for ninth nationally with 2.33 caused turnovers per game, helping anchor a Richmond defense that ranks No. 5 in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 8.00 goals per game.
The Spiders open Atlantic 10 play Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when they host new conference member Delaware.
