RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team earned its first weekly honors of the season from the Atlantic 10 Conference as senior Davis Wiley was named Player of the Week and freshman Nathan Germino collected Rookie of the Week recognition.
Wiley delivered a perfect 6-0 combined record across singles and doubles to help lead Richmond to two wins in three matches last week. Competing at the No. 1 position in both lineups, Wiley went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles alongside partner Cole Brashear.
The Arlington, Va., native opened the week with a straight-set victory over Campbell's Thomas Drapeau before securing a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win against James Madison's Esteve Agusti at the top singles position. Wiley closed the stretch with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance against Randolph-Macon's John Paul Zano.
In doubles play, Wiley and Brashear set the tone at the top court with a 6-2 victory over Campbell before adding a 6-3 win against James Madison. The pair capped the week with a 6-0 decision against Randolph-Macon to remain unbeaten across the three matches.
Germino also turned in key performances during Richmond's three-match week, contributing in both singles and doubles competition. The freshman earned a straight-set win at No. 3 singles in Richmond's 7-0 sweep of Randolph-Macon, defeating Winston Chapman 6-0, 6-0.
He also teamed with Charlie Burdell for a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles in the same match to help Richmond secure the doubles point. Earlier in the week, Germino competed at No. 6 singles against James Madison, pushing Gur Libal to three sets before falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The honors mark the first weekly awards for Richmond this season, first of Germino's career and fourth of Wiley's career.
Richmond returns to action Wednesday, March 11 with a doubleheader at The Citadel beginning at 2 p.m. The Spiders then travel to Davidson on Saturday, March 14 for an 11 a.m. matchup.
