Spiders Fall at James Madison Saturday Afternoon

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team fell 7-0 to James Madison on Saturday afternoon at Hillside Courts. With the loss, the Spiders move to 1-6 on the spring season, while the Dukes improve to 4-6 overall.
How It Happened
James Madison claimed the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Daria Munteanu and Ariel Avidan opened the afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Elizabeth Novak and Daniela O'Leary at No. 3. Brooklyn Hoffmann and Sophie Williams followed with a 6-3 decision against Sofia Barbulescu and Abby Lee on court one to secure the early advantage. The match on court two featuring Lainey O'Neil and Lucy Webber against Anna Kantor and Reka Matko was tied 4-4 when play was halted.
In singles action, the Dukes secured the match with straight-set wins on courts three and five. Sophie Williams defeated Abby Lee 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 before Anna Kantor topped Beatriz Guerra 6-3, 6-1 on court five.
Daria Munteanu added a three-set win over Barbulescu at the top spot, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Ariel Avidan rallied past Webber 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 on court four, while Corinna Rietmann earned a 7-5, 6-1 result against O'Neil at No. 6. Brooklyn Hoffmann closed the afternoon with a 7-6(3), 7-5 victory over Novak on court two.
