Late Equalizer Lifts Richmond to Road Draw at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team battled back late in the match to earn a 1-1 draw Thursday night at Longwood. With the result, the Spiders conclude non-conference action at 3-2-3 on the year, while the Lancers sit at 3-4-2.
How It Happened
The Lancers grabbed the lead in the 34th minute when Meghan Piazza converted inside the box off a build-up that started with Sam Fischer and Madison Fitzpatrick. Richmond went into halftime trailing 1-0 without a shot on goal.
The Spiders flipped the script after the break, applying steady pressure and firing all eight of their attempts in the second half. Emma Newman and Morgane Zinn both tested Longwood goalkeeper Sara Curtis with shots on target, while Richmond also forced multiple corner kicks to stay on the front foot.
The breakthrough came in the 88th minute, when Brooke Wilson slipped free in the box and buried her first career goal. Julia Lishia delivered the assist, her team-leading third of the season, to bring Richmond level and secure the road result.

Richmond will open Atlantic 10 Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 21, traveling to Duquesne for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Spiders then return home to President's Field to play host to George Mason on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
