Spiders Push Past George Washington, Custer Reaches Career Milestone
04/09/2025 | Women's Lacrosse
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond's women's lacrosse team played its last regular season midweek game against George Washington on Wednesday afternoon. The Spiders beat the Revolutionaries 16-5 at the GW Lacrosse Field. In the win, senior Hannah Custer reached a career milestone of 100 ground balls.
Â
"GW is a disciplined, gritty team. We wanted to show a lot of hustle on all parts of the field and we wanted to take things one play at a time," said Head Coach Anne Harrington.
Â
"The team did a great job attacking from the first whistle and playing for each other today. Three of the first 4 four goals were assisted and we won five of the first six draw controls. It was important for us to challenge ourselves at practice this week and show up for a full 60 minutes. We've got a team full of very capable players—we showed that on game day today. I'm thrilled everyone got on the field today and how many different people put up points and picked up ground balls. It's a lot of fun when we play together for the W."
Â
With the win, Richmond improves to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play. George Washington falls to 7-7 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Â
Colleen Quinn led the team with six points, earning a hat trick and tallying three assists. Juliana Stanley and Bridget Lonsinger both scored two goals and collected an assist, and Grace Muldoon and Keating Hopkins each netted two goals. Alexis Morton tallied two points on one goal and one assist. Elizabeth Darcy, Anya Wardle, Megan Rice and Stella Axe all scored a goal. Whitney Liebler collected a point, notching an assist.
Â
Richmond led 19-9 in ground balls, 13-12 in draw controls, 21-14 in shots on goal and had a 100 percent success rate in clears (20-20) in the contest against GW.
Â
The Spiders established a strong start as they scored the first two goals of the game, 2-0. At the end of the first quarter, Richmond took the 4-2 lead. Seeing four different goal scorers in the second quarter, the Spiders outscored the Revolutionaries 6-1 to extend the lead by eight at halftime, 10-2.
Â
At the start of the second half, Richmond netted a goal and in response GW scored its third goal of the game, 11-3. The Spiders then scored three straight goals to close the third quarter with a 14-3 lead. In the last frame, the Revolutionaries were able to score two more goals, but the Spiders put two more past the GW keeper and sealed the 16-5 victory.
