RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team extended its win streak to five matches on Sunday, handing Delaware a 4-1 loss at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. With the win, Richmond improved to 10-6 overall while the Blue Hens fell to 14-7 as Richmond also snapped a three-match win streak for UD.
How It Happened
Richmond earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Spider duo Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico set the tone with a 6-4 win over Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska (UD), while Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak handled Alina Vasilenko and Cornelia (UD) Kack 6-3 to secure the early lead.
In singles play, the Spiders quickly built momentum. Claire Le Du cruised past Navya Vadlamudi (UD) 6-2, 6-4 on court four to put Richmond up 2-0. Lara Bakhaya followed suit with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles before Delaware got on the board with a straight-sets victory on court five.
Campodonico sealed the team win on court two, coming from behind to defeat Vasilenko (UD) 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a gritty three-setter. Barbulescu's match at No. 1 and Lainey O'Neil's battle on court No. 6 were both left unfinished.
