WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team continued its win streak on Saturday, defeating William & Mary 5-2 at the Mackesy Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va. With the win, the Spiders improve to 9-6 and posted their first victory over the Tribe since April 16, 2023, marking the team's second win in the past 10 meetings while the Tribe fell to 13-3.
How It Happened
Richmond secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Spider duo Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico opened with a 6-2 victory over Hedda Gurholt and Ine Stange (W&M) on the ace court. After William & Mary responded with a win on court two, Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil clinched the point with a dramatic 7-6 (8-6) win on court three.
In singles play, the Spiders showcased their depth. Le Du gave Richmond its second point with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Francesca Davis (W&M) on court four. Elizabeth Novak followed with a strong performance on court five, defeating Mira Kernagis (W&M) 6-1, 6-3.
After William & Mary got on the board with a win at No. 1 singles, Bakhaya pushed Richmond ahead 4-1 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 comeback win on court three. Campodonico rounded out the match on court two, outlasting Alessandra Anghel (W&M) in three sets while William & Mary picked up a final win on court six.
