Spiders Shutout Saint Louis in Series Finale

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team avoided the Atlantic 10 Conference series sweep by shutting out Saint Louis University Sunday, 6-0, at Pitt Field.
Richmond, now 27-15 on the season and 8-13 in A-10 action, returns to league play Friday, May 2 at Dayton (23-23, 11-10 A-10). First pitch at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium on ESPN+ is set for 2 p.m.
Joey Giordano made his first collegiate start in his third appearance for Richmond, tossing four and a third of an inning of scoreless action. Giordano (2-0) allowed one hit and a walk while striking out a career high four.
Chayse Gruber took over for Giordano in the fifth. He went two and a third of an inning without allowing a base runner and struck out three in his second appearance against the Billikens this weekend.
Jack Arcamone put the Spiders on the board in the third inning with a three-run home run to right, scoring Aaron Whitley and Phil Bernstein, after both reached on base hits.
Brady O'Brien hit his 16th home run of the season in the eighth inning, a two-run shot to score Arcamone. Michael Elko followed with a walk, stole second then scored on Trevor Doesenbach's pinch hit double to left center to push the Spiders lead to 6-0.
Tyler Rigot collected his third save of the season after throwing two and a third of an inning, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out two to complete the shutout of Saint Louis.
