DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Richmond baseball team defeated the University of Dayton 9-2 Friday afternoon at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium in Atlantic 10 Conference action. The second game of the series is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch Saturday.
Richmond, now 28-15 on the year and 9-13 in A-10 play, got on the board first in the third inning. DJ Pacheco scored the first run on Phil Bernstein's bases loaded ground out. Jordan Jaffe brought in RJ Rickabaugh and Aaron Whitley with a base hit to center to give Richmond a 3-0 lead.
Dayton, 23-24 on the year and 11-11 in league action, got a run back in the bottom of the frame off Richmond starter Jackson Hinchliffe. Hinchliffe went four innings, allowing the one run on three hits, two walks, a hit batter and a strikeout.
Brady O'Brien led off the fourth with a base hit, then Michael Elko drew a full-count walk. After Pacheco put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up, both scored on Rickabaugh's double to left field.
