ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team opened its Atlantic 10 Championship run with a convincing 4-0 win over George Mason on Thursday evening at the USTA National Campus. The victory improved the Spiders to 12-8 on the season and advanced them to Friday's semifinal round.
How It Happened
The Spiders started strong in doubles, clinching the opening point with wins on courts one and two. Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley earned a 6-4 victory on court one, while Paxton Pritchard and Sam Rathmanner matched the scoreline on court two. George Mason took court three, but Richmond secured the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles action, the Patriots struck first on several courts, but the Spiders roared back. Dylan Atkinson got Richmond on the board with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 comeback win on court three, followed by Brashear's 6-4, 6-2 win on court five. Pritchard delivered the clinching point with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Monil Lotlikar (GMU) on court two.
The remaining matches were left unfinished, including a third-set battle on court one between Wiley and Ekansh Kumar (GMU).
