Spider Baseball Collects Midweek Win Over Coppin State

Richmond, now 25-10 on the year, stay on the road this weekend and head to Washington, DC to face George Washington in Atlantic 10 Conference action. First pitch on Friday, April 19 is set for 3 p.m. at Tucker Field and streamed on ESPN+.
DJ Pacheco got the Spiders on the board in the second inning, lacing a base hit through the infield to score Michael Elko.
In the third, the Spiders scored 12 runs on six hits, six walks, one hit by pitch and three Coppin State errors. Jordan Jaffe got the offense started when he scored on an Eagle throwing error. With Pacheco at the plate, Jack Arcamone scored on a wild pitch before Elko came home on Pacheco's hit to center field for a 5-0 lead.
Pacheco came home on a passed ball before Phil Bernstein doubled in two runs. In his second at bat of the frame, Arcamone hit a grand slam to right field for his tenth home run of the season to give UR an 11-0 lead. Elko tallied a run on a wild pitch before Pacheco scored on RJ Rickabaugh's base hit through the infield for the 11th and 12th runs of the inning.
Jackson Hinchliffe went three innings to collect the victory, scattering two hits, three walks and a hit batter with five strikeouts. CSU got two runs in the fourth on two hits, two walks and a hit batter to cut into the Spiders lead, 13-2. Jason Shockly got out of the frame with a strikeout and left the bases loaded.
Brady O'Brien sent the first pitch of the fifth inning over the right field wall for his team-leading 12th home run of the season. Pacheco brought in Elko on an Eagle error before scoring on Connor Larson's base hit to make it 16-2.
Sam Young allowed one hit in the bottom of the fifth but stranded them with a scoreless frame of work. Young collected two strikeouts.
After Aidan O'Keefe extended the sixth with a two out walk then scored on P.J. Hughes double to give Richmond a 17-2 lead.
Coppin State got to reliever Angel Santiago-Cruz, touching him up for three runs on three hits, a walk and a hit batter and cutting into UR's lead, 17-5.
Richmond got a run back in the seventh, when Aaron Whitley scored his second run of the game on a wild pitch. Whitley reached three times on a walk and two hit-by-pitch to lead the team with 13 hit by pitches this season.
Coppin State forced an eighth inning after scoring four runs on four hits, one walk and a Spider error, 18-9.
Grant Kennedy launched a two-run home run over the right field wall in the eighth to put the Spiders up 20-9 for his second home run of the season.
CSU added a single run in the bottom of the frame, but Paul Witkop got a strikeout to end the game and strand two Eagles.
