Novak Secures Lone Point as Spiders Drop Match to Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team faced a tough matchup against ACC foe Virginia Tech, falling 6-1 to the Hokies on Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center to fall to 2-2 overall, while the Hokies improved to 9-1 on the season.
How it Happened
Virginia Tech took an early lead by securing the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. On court one, #67-ranked Cartledge and Uslu (VT) defeated Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico (RIC) 6-2. Gamretkaia and Gorinsek (VT) topped Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak (RIC) 6-2 on court two, to secure the doubles point. On court three, Aksu and Ziets-Segura (VT) led Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil (RIC) but was left unfinished at 5-3.
Virginia Tech continued its offensive front in singles, winning five of the six matches. On court four, Frosch (VT) picked up a win over Lara Bakhaya (RIC) 6-0, 6-1, giving the Hokies their second point of the match. On court two, Aksu (VT) earned a 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 victory over Andrea Campodonico (RIC). Sofia Barbulescu (RIC) dropped her match on the ace court to #28 Uslu (VT) 6-3, 7-5, extending Virginia Tech's lead to 4-0.
Abby Lee (RIC) took Gamretkaia (VT) to three sets, ultimately dropping the match 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 1-0 (10-3). On court six, Mulready (VT) secured a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Claire Le Du (RIC). Richmond's lone point of the day came courtesy of Elizabeth Novak (RIC) on court five, as she earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Cartledge (VT).
