
Spiders Open Road Swing with Statement Win at Campbell

Buies Creek, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team notched its third win of the season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 win at Campbell. With the win, the Spiders improved to 3-2 overall and have won its first of five-straight road matches while the Camels fell to 4-5.
How it Happened
Richmond secured the doubles point as Spider duo Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil defeated Kivity/Ozel (CAMW), 6-4 before Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak cruised through their doubles match, defeating Maras/Prospalova (CAMW), 6-2 on court 2. Andrea Campodonico and Lara Bakhaya led Garcia/Pieczynska 5-3 on court No. 1, but the match was left unfinished.
Richmond continued its offensive threat in singles, as Lara Bakhaya put UR up 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ozel (CAMW) on court four. The Camels then notched their lone singles win on court two before Lainey O'Neil got the Spiders back into the scoring column with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Prospalova (CAMW) on the sixth court. Novak followed suit with a three-set thriller victory over Marti (CAMW), 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 while Richmond picked up two more three-set wins as Abby Lee rounded out her match on court three, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 over Kivity (CAMW), and Barbulescu defeated Pieczynska (CAMW), 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

The Spiders continue their road swing on Saturday, as the team takes on East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. at 11 a.m. and will spend spring break out west with a matchup against Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz. on March 11, followed by a match at UNLV on March 13 at 1 p.m. Richmond will round out the road swing at Liberty on March 16 at 1 p.m.
