
4x400-Meter Relay Team Emerges Victorious at VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The University of Richmond's women's track and field team competed at the VMI Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility on Saturday afternoon. Highlighting the day was the Spider 4x400-meter relay team.
Richmond's 4x400 relay team emerged victorious as the Spiders beat 11 other teams. The relay (A), senior Elke Van der Westhuizen, junior Nina Lavelle, freshman Molly Flanagan and sophomore Morgan Elliot placed first with a time of 3:51.22.
In the 400-meter, Van der Westhuizen led the Spiders with a second-place finish posting a time of 57.23. Coming in third was teammate, sophomore Morgan Elliott, who finished with a time of 57.79.
Two Spiders competed in the 800 meter and finished in the top five. Sophomore Ashley Bolesh placed second at 2:21.24. Senior Emily Rzucidlo finished with a time of 2:24.19 and placed fourth.
Senior Lindsay Colflesh ran the mile for the first time in her collegiate career and placed 18th with a time of 5:29.81.
In the 3000-meter, junior Phoebe Rubio finished with a time of 10:19.82 to place seventh.
Three Spiders made their collegiate debut as freshmen Avery Beike, Kayla Buback and Mia Paolino laced up their spikes for the first time this indoor season.
Up next for the Spiders are the Penn State National Open and the VMI Winter Relays on January 31.
