Track and Field Performs Well at Penn State National Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University of Richmond's women's track and field team wrapped up the final day of competition at the Penn State National Open at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. The Spiders finished the meet with six new personal bests and multiple qualifying marks for the IC4A Championships.
Virginia Beringer finished second in the 500-meter run with a new personal best of 1:13.83. Her time is the best in the Atlantic 10 Conference and is the 14th best in the NCAA. Beringer's time qualifies her for the IC4A Championships this March.
In the 200-meter, sophomore Gabrielle Cummings placed sixth with a personal best time of 24.74. Junior Nina Lavelle placed 35th with a time of 26.30.
Richmond saw success in the 3,000-meter as two Spiders set new personal bests. Junior Mollie Fenn finished 10th with a time of 9:53.31, recording a personal best. Sophomore Charlotte Hudson also finished with a personal best time of 10:06.97, placing 19th. Junior Brooke Reif completed the race with a time of 10:16.59 to finish 25th.
In the distance medley relay, senior Dylan Miller, sophomore Morgan Elliott, senior Morgan Lyons and freshman Hallie Muniz finished fourth with a time of 11:53.85. The Spiders' DMR is ranked 45th in the NCAA.
In the 4x400-meter relay, senior Elke Van der Westhuizen, Elliott, freshman Molly Flanagan and graduate student Darya Mikusova finished fifth with a time of 3:46.86.
Running unattached, sophomore Joshua Gray ran a personal best in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:31.92 to finish 16th. Cooper Groat also ran the 1,000-meter and finished 10th with a personal best time of 2:25.09. Groat's time qualified him for the IC4A Championships this March.
Up next for Richmond is the Virginia Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va., on Feb. 7-8.
