Spiders Move to A-10 Championship Second Round with win over No. 9 George Washington

ORLANDO, Fla. – Behind a dominant showing in doubles action and a singles court No. 5 win from Elizabeth Novak to clinch the match, the No. 8-seeded University of Richmond women's tennis team downed No. 9 George Washington, 4-1, Wednesday morning in the opening round of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship. With the win, the Spiders improved to 9-10 overall and will take on No. 1 VCU on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
How it Happened
In doubles, Polina Shitikova and Lara Bakhaya stormed to a 6-1 win over Sasinka/Lee (GW) on court two before Spider duo Lainey O'Neil and Elizabeth Novak clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Ramirez/Skeene (GW).
In singles action, Bakhaya continued her singles success with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lee (GW) on court No. 4. After the Revolutionaries brought one back with a win on court one, Shitikova defeated Skeene (GW) 6-3, 6-2 on court six and Novak clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ramirez (GW) on court five to give Richmond the 4-1 win.
