
Spiders Secure Program’s 100th Victory In Conference Opener At St. Bonaventure

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team opened Atlantic 10 conference play at St. Bonaventure Saturday, taking down the Bonnies 19-8 to earn Head Coach Dan Chemotti and the rest of the Spider program's 100th victory.
Richmond (6-4, 1-0) controlled throughout, outshooting St. Bonaventure (1-7, 0-1). 49-28, with 29 of the Spiders shots coming in the first half. Richmond jumped to an early lead to start the game, picking up a 5-0 goal advantage by the 6:02 mark of the opening quarter. From there, the Spiders offense opened up, scoring nine goals to St. Bonaventure's four to bring up a 14-4 halftime score. 14 goals is the most in a half for the Spiders since March 13, 2021 when Richmond jumped to a 15-4 first half lead over VMI.
For the second time this season, every available field player saw game action as Richmond emptied its bench in the second half. While the Bonnies kept closer pace with the Spiders over the final 30 minutes, Richmond would tack on five more goals to St. Bonaventure's four and run away with a conference-opening win on the back of its explosive first half.
Aidan O'Neil (5 goals, 2 assists) and Dalton Young (3 goals, 4 assists) led the Richmond offense with seven points each while Luke Grayum followed with five via three goals and two assists. Lance Madonna and Henry Alpaugh netted two goals apiece, while Lucas Littlejohn, Charlie Packard, Lukas Olsson and Ryan Thompson each chipped in one. Littlejohn's goal came during his first career start, and Thompson's was the second in the defensive midfielder's career. Max Merklinger added an assist as well.
St. Bonaventure turned the ball over 23 times including 15 caused by Richmond, which ties for the seventh-most in a single game in program history for the Spiders. Close defensemen Nate Murphy, Jack Fabean and Hunter Smith each recorded a pair of caused turnovers while Littlejohn, Thompson, Xander Welty, Jeff Nugent, Gavin Creo, Connor Kelly, Bo Brown, Joe Gooley and Tommy Stull added one each.
The Spiders won the ground ball game, scooping 37 to St. Bonaventure's 24 and held the upper hand on clears, going 19-21 while the Bonnies went 15-20. Zach Vigue earned the win, recording five saves and Connor Knight played the final 15 minutes of the game and made a stop.
The Spiders return home on Saturday, April 6 when Hobart visits Robins Stadium for the first tine, Face off is set for noon.
