
Strong Second Half, Grayum Pushes No. 14 Spiders Past Binghamton, 19-10

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team used an 11-3 scoring advantage during the second half of Saturday's game to push the No. 14 Spiders past Binghamton, 19-10. Luke Grayum, who recorded five of his seven goals in the second half, tied the Spiders program record for goals in a game, also held by Richie Connell (March 20, 2021 at Bellarmine).
Richmond scored the first goal of the game before the Bearcats scored four unanswered including two man-up goals during an unreleasable penalty just over four minutes into the contest. The Spiders answered back with their own four-unanswered goal run in the second quarter to give Richmond a narrow 8-6 lead going into the break. The second half was all Richmond as the Spiders held the Bearcats (1-3) to just 10 shots in the final two frames to move the Spiders to 3-2 on the season with back-to-back home wins.
Richmond was lead by Grayum's seven goals followed by Dalton Young who added three goals and five assists. Young's five assists ties his career-high set on three occasions prior. Aidan O'Neil (two assists) and Max Merklinger added two goals, while Lance Madonna (assist), Jack Ricciardi (assist), Jeff Nugent, Charlie Packard and Lukas Olsson each added one. Will Tazewell and Joe Sheridan both dished assists in the win as well.
On the defensive end, Zach Vigue recorded 11 saves before Connor Knight took over goalie duties for the final 6:30 of the game. On top of his big scoring day, Grayum added two caused turnovers while Tommy Stull led with four. Madonna and Braden McClure were also credited with a caused turnover each.
The Bearcats turned the ball over 19 times to Richmond's seven including 10 turnovers in the second half alone while Richmond kept the pressure on all game, recording a season-high 59 shots.
Richmond was nearly perfect on clears, going 24-25, while Binghamton went 15-18. Jared Chenoy went 8-15 at the faceoff dot while Anthony DiCenso was 8-16 to give Richmond a 17-15 advantage on faceoffs won.
