
No. 17 Spiders Topple UMBC on the Road, 13-4

Baltimore, Md. – The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team won its first true road contest of the season Friday evening, defeating UMBC, 13-4.
UMBC (1-3) scored the game's first goal before Richmond went on a four-unanswered goal run to make it a 4-1 game by the 9:44 mark of the second quarter. From there, the Retrievers scored two more goals before Richmond put its foot on the gas and didn't let up, outscoring UMBC 9-1 to pull away with its fourth win of the season.
Richmond was lead by Dalton Young with five points via two goals and three assists, while Henry Alpaugh scored three and Aidan O'Neil (assist) and Lance Madonna added two each. Luke Grayum (assist), Braden McClure, Joe Sheridan, and Max Merklinger all added a goal as well.
Richmond held a 33-23 advantage in ground balls and the Spiders (4-2) outshot the Retrievers 45-29 and maintained possession thanks to Jared Chenoy's 13 face offs won and nine ground ball pick ups. Young followed with five ground balls, tying his single-game career high.
Richmond went 22-for-24 on clears while UMBC was 18-for-21 while Zach Vigue tallied 15 saves in cage and recorded a caused turnover. Jeff Nugent, Joe Gooley and Tommy Stull each added a caused turnovers as well.
The Spiders killed both its man-down situations while Alpaugh's first goal of the game came on a Spiders extra-man opportunity.
The Spiders have a quick turnaround before their next game when they travel to Bucknell on Tuesday, March 12. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
