
Spiders Drop Battle at George Washington Sunday Afternoon

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a goal from Kiley Fitzgerald in the 26th minute, the University of Richmond women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to George Washington Sunday afternoon on the road. With the setback, the Spiders fell to 3-8-2 on the year and 1-5 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while the Revolutionaries improved to 4-7-3 and 2-3-1 in the A-10.

How it Happened
The Revolutionaries opened the match with a goal in the second minute before Bussiere posted the first shot for the Spiders in the 15th minute. The Spiders then posted back-to-back looks just off target courtesy of JoJo McShane, who played in her first match since 9/1/24 vs Delaware, and Kelly Hutton. The Spiders finally found the equalizer in the 26th minute from a buildup play sparked from Bussiere, who found the foot of Fitzgerald who then found the back of the net from outside the 18. Both teams shared bouts of possession throughout the rest of the opening 45, but Richmond would end the half in a deadlock, 1-1.
Hutton posted the first look in the second half in the 52nd minute before the Revolutionaries were able to slot a shot past Spider keeper McKenna Dalfonso in the 53rd minute to go up 2-1. Gwen Howell posted a shot in the 84th minute before UR posted two back-to-back shots in the 90th minute. Richmond was unable to capitalize on the chances as the Spiders dropped the match 2-1.
