CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Tennis team opened the 2024 season with a hard-fought loss to No.12-ranked Virginia, 4-0 Thursday afternoon on the road.

How it Happened
On court one, Melodie Collard/Elaine Chervinsky (UVA) defeated Lara Bakhaya/Polina Shitikova (RIC) 6-2 to secure the first doubles win for the Cavaliers while Natasha Subhash/Meggie Navarro (UVA) defeated the Spider duo of Carly Cohen/Lainey O'Neil (RIC) on court three, 6-4. Claire Le Du and Elizabeth Novak led Sara Ziodato/Annabelle Xu (UVA), 4-3, on court two, but left the match unfinished as UVA went up 1-0 following doubles action.

In singles, No. 82 Collard (UVA) defeated Shitikova (RIC) on court five, 6-0, 6-1, while on court two, No. 46 Hibah Shaikh (UVA) defeated Leonor Oliveira (RIC), 6-0, 6-1. No. 86 Xu (UVA) defeated Cohen (RIC) on court one to give UVA the win, 4-0.
