Spiders Move Indoors, Fall to the Phoenix Sunday Afternoon

ELON, N.C. – The University of Richmond Women's Tennis team fell in a tough match, 4-0, to Elon Sunday afternoon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 4-12 while the Phoenix improved to 13-3 overall. The match, originally set to be played on Elon's Campus, was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
In doubles action, duo Andrea Campodonico and Polina Shitikova left their match unfinished, trailing 5-4 on court one, while Claire Le Du and Marta Buendia fell 6-3 on court two. On doubles court three, Carly Cohen and Lara Bakhaya also fell 6-3 to Sarikulaya/Konar (ELON).
In singles, Leonor Oliveira split the first two sets 2-6, 6-3, before falling 6-1 in the third set to Tanik (ELON) on court one. Campodonico also went to three sets as she dropped her court two match 4-6, 6-0, 4-6. On court three, Cohen left her match unfinished in the third set as she split the first two, 4-6, 6-5. On court five and six, Buendia and Bakhaya also left their matches unfinished as Buendia was trailing 5-0 in the first set and Bakhaya was also trailing 2-0 in the first for the 4-0 Phoenix victory.
The Spiders will look to begin a three-match home swing starting with Delaware on Mar. 30 at 3 p.m., Fordham on Apr. 1 at noon and will round out the series of matches with Rhode Island on Apr. 2 at 9 a.m.
