Spiders Fall Short at #20 Georgetown

Washington— The University of Richmond Men's Lacrosse team suffered a 13-12 loss at No. 20 Georgetown Saturday.
Freshmen Aidan O'Neil and Joe Sheridan each recorded their first career hat tricks, while Derrek Madonna scored two and Luke Grayum, Dalton Young and Lance Madonna each added one.
The Spiders (4-3) and Hoyas (2-3) were tied at the end of the first quarter before Richmond put up a big second frame with five goals and five saves by Zach Vigue. Vigue was credited with a season-high 19 saves in the game.
The Spiders led Georgetown 7-4 at the half, but the Hoyas came out firing in the third quarter and scored six goals to Richmond's four. The teams traded goals early in the fourth with Sheridan's goals at the 12:49 and 10:05 marks tying and taking the lead back late in the game.
Richmond recorded just one penalty on the day with 9:14 left in the game and the Hoyas were able to convert on the extra-man opportunity. With the game tied late at 12 apiece, Georgetown would score the eventual game winner with 5:35 left to go.
Jared Chenoy assured the Spiders would have plenty of scoring opportunities, going 17-for-29 on face offs and scooped nine ground balls. The spiders totaled 28 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Georgetown recorded 47 shots with 32 on cage.
The Spiders have next weekend off before heading to St. John's March 25.
