Spiders Battle to Scoreless Draw Against Davidson Sunday Afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. – In a match that saw 26 fouls and three yellow cards, the University of Richmond Women's Soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against Davidson Sunday afternoon at home. With the draw, the Spiders moved to 3-9-4 on the year and 1-6-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference while the Wildcats moved to 3-10-2 and 0-6-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spiders opened the match with a quick shot over the goal courtesy of junior Sofia Mancino in the first minute. Caitlin Sutton would also have three dangerous looks on frame in the first half, but would be collected by the Wildcat keeper. Davidson would collect a corner kick in the 42nd minute, but would be unable to capitalize as the teams ended the first half deadlocked at 0-0.
In the second half, Richmond would control possession in the opening minutes, but Davidson would quickly counter and pick up a corner in the 61st minute. Molly Wierman would have a dangerous look on frame in the 64th minute but was again collected by the Davidson keeper. Sophomore Marisa Snee would have one final shot in the 79th minute, but the Spiders were unable to find the back of the net for the 0-0 draw.

The Spiders will look ahead at their final home match on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against Rhode Island and will round out the regular season at Duquesne on Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m.

- Taylor Montague played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded nine saves through 15 shots and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
- Caitlin Sutton, Elle Dziadzio, Gwen Howell, Sofia Mancino and Casey Merz also played the full 90.
- Sutton recorded a season-high four shots (three on frame) to pace the Spiders.
- Richmond recorded eight total shots with four on frame.
- The all-time series record with Davidson moved to 6-2-4.
