Cohen Picks up Big Singles Victory, Spiders Fall to James Madison Sunday Afternoon

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Despite a huge singles win by junior Carly Cohen, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team dropped a hard-fought battle against JMU Sunday afternoon on the road, 6-1. The Spiders fell to 0-5 on the young season while JMU improved to 2-1 on the year.
In singles action, Leonor Oliveira forced a decisive third set as she fell 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2 to Kylie Moulin (JMU). Andrea Campodonico also took her singles match to three, narrowly falling 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 against Daniela Voloh (JMU). Cohen defeated Daria Afanasyeva (JMU), 6-4. 6-4 for a dominant singles win for the Spiders.
In doubles action, Cohen/Oliveira fell to Moulin/Oliveira (JMU), 6-3, while Marta Buendia/Campodonico fell to Munteanu/Voloh (JMU), 6-3 and Lara Bakhaya/Elizabeth Novak put up a fight, but ultimately fell 6-4 to Afanasyeva/ Matko (JMU).
The Spiders will look to rebound at Radford on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va., before taking on Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. on Feb 4 on the road. The Spiders will open the 2023 home slate against Norfolk State on Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Westhampton Tennis Complex.
