Le Du and Bakhaya Record Big Singles Victories as Spiders Fall to Wake Forest Sunday Afternoon

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Despite singles victories from freshman Lara Bakhaya and redshirt sophomore Claire Le Du, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Wake Forest on the road Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 0-4 on the year while Wake Forest improved to 2-0 overall.
In the singles matches, Bakhaya defeated Jingyi Li (WF) 6-7 (9-11), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) and picked up her first singles win of the season while Le Du defeated Maddie Lynch (WF) in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-3.
"Claire and Lara really played well," said Head Coach Jacob Dunbar. "They fought through some tough matches. It was great to see them get some wins and prove that the hard work is paying off this year."
In doubles action, Marta Buendia and Andrea Campodonico fell to No. 12 Brylin/Killingsworth (WF), 6-2 while Le Du and Polina Shitikova also fell to Carton/Pate (WF) 6-2.
The Spiders continue the 2023 season on the road, taking on James Madison on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va.
