Campodonico Picks up Singles Win; Spiders Fall to UPenn on the Road

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior Andrea Campodonico defeated Juliana Munhoz (PENN) in a hard-fought singles match as the University of Richmond women's tennis team fell 6-1 to UPenn on the road Monday afternoon.
In doubles play, juniors Carly Cohen and Leonor Oliveira fell to the Quakers 6-1 while Campodonico and senior Marta Buendia fell to UPenn 6-3 in their doubles match.
For the singles matches, Campodonico opened her match with a 6-2 rout over Munhoz before taking the second set by a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4). Redshirt sophomore Claire Le Du narrowly fell to Iris Gallo (PENN), 7-6 (5), 6-4, while Oliveira almost took the second set from Gavriella Smith (PENN), but ultimately fell 6-2, 7-6 (7).
The Spiders continue on the road, taking on No. 7 Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. on Jan. 20 at noon and then Wake Forest on Jan. 22 in Winston-Salem, N.C. at 4:30 p.m.
