KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team is coming home from Rhode Island with a point toward the Atlantic 10 standings after battling for a full 90 minutes to a scoreless draw against the Rams Thursday night at the URI Soccer Complex.
Both squads were looking for their first A-10 win of the season as Richmond now sits at 1-7-3 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play while URI moves to 1-6-6 overall and 0-2-3 in conference play.
"This was a hard-earned point on the road," said head coach Marty Beall. "I'm proud of how hard our girls competed and how they earned the shutout."
Richmond notched its first shot in the 18th minute of action, and Molly Wierman had a solid chance in the 26th minute with a hard strike on net off her left foot from the top of the box. She added another last-chance shot on goal with 20 seconds remaining in the match.
Goalkeeper Taylor Montague made eight saves, including shutting down a one-on-one situation in the 27th minute, for her third shutout of the season.
Up next, the Spiders return home to host cross-town A-10 rival VCU at President's Field Sunday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.
