Tritt Scores in Loss at High Point
09/11/2022 | Women's Soccer
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team dropped a road match to High Point Sunday afternoon, 3-1. Graduate student Katie Tritt notched Richmond's lone goal with her first goal since March 18, 2021, and the Spiders fall to 1-5-1 this season while High Point improves to 1-5-2.
"When you give your opponent multiple breakaways each game, it's going to be hard to win games. We have to do a better job adjusting when teams become direct," said head coach Marty Beall. "That being said, we created two amazing opportunities to score in the first half and had 4 or 5 fantastic opportunities to score in the second half. While the High Point goalkeeper made some great saves, we have to become more clinical in front of the goal. The pieces are there, but we just need to put them together as we start our Atlantic 10 schedule this Thursday at St. Joes."
Richmond went into halftime down 2-0, but threatened High Point in the second half with a goal in the 66th minute to cut the deficit in half. Emma Coleman took the ball up the left side of the field and fed it to Tritt who was all alone in the middle of the box and headed it in.
The Spiders outshot the Panthers 15-11 in the second, but High Point netted a third goal in the 79th minute.
Spider goalkeeper Taylor Montague made seven saves for Richmond.
Up next, the Spider open conference action with a trip to Saint Joseph's Thursday at 7 p.m.
