Spiders Shut Out La Salle at Home

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Spiders netted two second-half goals in less than a minute Thursday afternoon to defeat La Salle 2-0 at home.
Emma Coleman and Emma Shields each scored their second goal in their second consecutive game while goalkeeper Taylor Montague posted her fourth shutout of the season to help Richmond improve to 3-8-3 overall and 2-3-2 in Atlantic 10 play this year.
Molly Morgan assisted both Richmond goals to bring her season total to three assists.
After being knotted up at 0-0 the entire game, Richmond got on the board late in the second half when Morgan sent a ball up the field to Coleman who beat out the La Salle defender for possession and put a left-footed laser in the net at 78:30.
Just 46 seconds later, Morgan sent a cross into the box where Shields connected to send the ball over the keeper's head and into the net, doubling Richmond's lead at 2-0.
Coleman's goal proved to be her second-consecutive game-winner.
Montague finished the day with four saves in goal for a clean sheet.
Up next, the Spiders travel to St. Bonaventure for a 1 p.m. kickoff Sunday, Oct. 16.
