AMHERST, Mass. – After an early strike to take a quick lead, the University of Richmond women's soccer team conceded two unanswered goals to the University of Massachusetts that resulted in a tough 2-1 Atlantic 10 loss on the road Thursday afternoon. TJ Anderson was the lone goal scorer for the Spiders with her second goal in as many games and her fourth goal of the season. With the loss, Richmond drops to 6-7-1 (4-3 A-10) this season while UMass improves to 8-4-3 (4-2-1 A-10).

The Spiders came out strong on the attack and struck first just three minutes into the game when Molly Wierman sent a cross right into the middle at the top of the six-yard box, and TJ Anderson took the deflection off the UMass defender and sniped it in at the top of the goal.

Just over a minute later, however, UMass evened things up when Ashley Lamond headed in the equalizer off a cross from Chandler Edolzky to make it 1-1.

The Minutemen took the lead in the 64^th minute when Pedolzky and Lamond linked up for the second time in the game as Pedolzky found Lamond all alone to the left of the box where she was able to send a hard strike off the crossbar and into the goal for a 2-1 lead.

Richmond saw a few solid late chances as Sara Moushegian forced the UMass keeper to make a sprawling save with a long strike from 25 yards out in the 81^st minute. The Spiders could not convert anything, however, as the two UMass goals would remain unanswered.

UMass outshot Richmond 18-5 in the game and held the advantage in corner kicks 9-4. Anderson had three of Richmond's shots on the day. Goalkeeper Claire Hinkle made three saves for the Spiders.

The Spiders host Davidson at President's Field Sunday, Oct. 17 as part of the program's 25^th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. Start time is slated for 1 p.m., and there will be a celebration of life at halftime for former Spider Ashleigh Kohlitz (Blumer), who passed away after her long battle with cancer on May 13, 2021.
