Spiders Blank Wildcats at Home

RICHMOND, Va. – Three Spiders recorded career-firsts Sunday afternoon as Richmond shut out Atlantic 10 foe Davidson 3-0 at President's Field to remain unbeaten at home this season. The Spiders have blanked their opponent in three of their last four games, and have posted five straight shutouts at home dating back to Sept. 12 against Coastal Carolina.
Victoria Huxtable and Hannah Antonick each notched their first career goal while Caitlin Sutton dished out her first career assist to help the Spiders improve to 7-7-1 (5-3-0 A-10). Davidson drops to 4-9-3 (0-6-2 A-10) with the loss.
TJ Anderson registered Richmond's third goal in the game, and has now scored in three consecutive games. Molly Wierman tallied a pair of assists on the day, and goalkeeper Taylor Montague made six saves, four in the first half, to post her second consecutive clean sheet and fourth of the season.
Richmond's first goal came in the closing minutes of the first half when Sutton sent a perfect long feed from midfield to Huxtable at the top of the box, and Huxtable beat the Davidson keeper in the upper right corner in the 40th minute.
The Spiders doubled their lead early on in the second half as Molly Wierman sent a cross into the box and caused a scramble in front of the goal where Antonick was able to punch it in for a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute. Just moments later, Wierman sent the ball deep into the box where Emma Coleman kicked it back out to Anderson who sniped it in from the top of the box for her fifth goal of the season.
Richmond and Davidson were even in shots with six apiece, but Davidson held the advantage in corners 7-2. Six different Spiders were responsible for all of Richmond's shots, and the three goal scorers were joined by Coleman, Molly Morgan, and JoJo McShane who each recorded a shot.
The Spiders travel to Saint Louis on Thursday for their last road game of the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
