Richmond Drops Road Match At No. 11 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team lost a road match to No. 11 Virginia, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
Richmond (1-4) lost the doubles point after dropping all three matches. Senior Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) and senior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) fell 6-1 at No. 1 doubles against Amber O'Dell and Chloe Gullickson.
Virginia clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles as senior Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) lost to Rosie Johanson and Vivian Glozman.
In the final doubles match, junior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) and freshman Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) lost 6-2 against UVA's doubles team of Natasha Subhash and Sofia Munera were leading 5-2.
In singles action, 30th ranked Subhash won in straight sets against Dunbar, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Virginia took a 3-0 lead after Gullickson won in straight sets against Justine Bryson (Tortola, Virgin Islands), 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Cavaliers clinched the win after 35th ranked Johanson won in straight sets against Zlateva, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Glozman won in straight sets against freshman Marta Buendia (Madrid, Spain), 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Owens battled in the first set leading 5-4 before falling short 7-5 and lost the second set 6-0.
In the final match, O'Dell won in straight sets against Marshall, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Richmond will host Atlantic 10 foe Davidson on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 4 p.m. at the Country Club of Virginia.
