
Spiders Fall Short In A-10 Championship Match

ORLANDO, FL – The University of Richmond men's tennis team lost a doubles point for the first time in six matches and just couldn't overcome the deficit in singles play falling 4-0 to VCU in the Atlantic 10 Championship Sunday morning at the USTA National Campus.
The Spiders lost the doubles point after dropping the first two doubles matches. Junior George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) and freshman John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) lost to Javier Amantegui and Rayane Stable 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) and junior Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) lost at No. 1 doubles 6-3 against Avid Noren and Inigo Torre Martin.
Freshman Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Klein Evans (Raleigh, N.C.) went unfinished trailing 4-5 against Philip Mobius and Inaki Crespo Rivero at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Rams took a 2-0 lead after Torre Martin won in straight sets against Lovitt, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. VCU earned a 3-0 lead after Mobius defeated Walsh, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Rams clinched the victory after Stable won in straight sets against Fernandez, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Sophomore Joe Nardini (Arlington, Va.) was in a battled in the second set against Rivero Crespo 3-6, 4-4. Evans forced a third set against Noren 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Erwin was in a third set against Amantegui 6-3, 0-6, 3-3 at No. 5 singles.
Richmond (18-6) ends the season after a great run to the A-10 Championship, making their second final in the last three years.
