
Spiders Dominate A-10 Foe Saint Joseph’s, 6-1

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team moved their Atlantic 10 opener indoors and took care of business 6-1 against Saint Joseph's Friday night at the Country Club of Virginia.
The Spiders (4-3) took a 1-0 lead after winning the first two doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) and Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) didn't drop a game in a 6-0 win against Madeline Hill and Alex Kramer.
Richmond clinched the doubles point after junior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) and sophomore Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) won 6-1 against Amanda Nava and Paige Conrad at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, Lyndell Giffenig (Salisbury, Conn.) and senior Ana Ramirez (Mexico City) were up 5-2 against Katherine Devlin and Iswarya Vel before the doubles point was clinched.
In singles action, Owens won in straight sets against Hill, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Ramirez gave Richmond a 3-0 lead after winning 6-1, 6-0 against Devlin, at No. 5 singles.
Marshall clinched the win for the Spiders with a 6-1, 6-2, victory against Kramer, at No. 2 singles. Zlateva made the score 5-0 after a straight-sets win against Conrad, 6-0, 6-2.
At No. 6 singles, Giffenig earned a 6-1, 6-4 win against Vel after trailing 3-4 in the second set. Giffenig earned a break to tie the second set at 4-4 and won the next two games.
In the final match, Dunbar lost a tough match in a third set super tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3). Dunbar lost the 10-point super tiebreaker, 10-3.
Richmond will head to Charleston, South Carolina for a spring break trip with matches against College of Charleston (March 11), UMass (March 13) and Samford (March 14) next week.
