
Spiders Down Billikens on Thursday, 5-2

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team logged its second 5-2 win in a row on Thursday night, defeating conference foe Saint Louis at the VCU Bubble.
The Billikens jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with wins on doubles courts 1 and 2. Brice Polender and Klein Evans nearly posted a win at No. 2, but the pair of Justin and John Nogalski took a narrow 7-6(9-7) win to clinch the point. Despite the loss of the doubles point, Matt Fernandez and George Lovitt were able to take court 3, 6-2.
Things turned around in singles play, as the Spiders took five of six matches for the win. Evans won his second match of the day, this time on singles court 5, with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Justin Nogalski, while James Aronson took a 6-4, 6-1 win on court 4 over Oscar Pachon.
John Karlawish extended the Spider lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Juan Calero on court 3, and Caleb Troy distanced the Spiders even more with a 6-4, 7-6(7-2) win at No. 1 over David Ferragut. Fernandez was forced to battle on court 2, but eventually sealed the 5-2 win with a 6-3, 3-6, ,6-1 victory over John Nogalski.
The Spiders return to action next Friday, March 9, when they open play on the newly renovated Westhampton Tennis Courts against Howard. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
