09/24/2017 | Women's Soccer
OLEAN, N.Y. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team controlled play for most of the game at St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon, but the Spiders were unable to score more than once over 110 minutes, playing to a 1-1 draw with the Bonnies.
After a scoreless opening 43 minutes, the Bonnies got on the board in the final two minutes of the half on a set piece shot that was headed into the near post.
The 1-0 lead for the host would hold for the remainder of the half.
The Spiders came out firing in the second stanza, taking 10 shots to just two for the Bonnies. Despite the offensive pressure, Richmond couldn't capitalize until the closing minutes.
The game-tying goal came with just under two minutes to play, when Alyssa Walker collected the ball off of a St. Bonaventure turnover and sent it to Lexi Prillaman. Prillaman then beat the Bonnie goalkeeper to send the game into overtime.
The Spiders dominated possession over two sudden-victory overtime periods, but were unable to score, settling for a 1-1 draw.
Richmond outshot the Bonnies 20-7, and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Olivia Sjodin finished the game with three saves for the Spiders, while Prillaman led the team with six shots.
The Spiders return to action on Thursday, September 28, when they travel to face Rhode Island. Kickoff in Kingston is set for 7 p.m.
