
Spiders Fall Short at James Madison, 4-3

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team nearly pulled off a victory against instate rival James Madison, but was unable to overcome the Dukes, falling 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
James Madison started strong, taking the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3, but the Spider pair of Kiana Marshall and Lyndell Giffenig won on court 2, taking down Emma Petersen and Rebecca Harris, 6-2.
The Spiders bounced back in singles when Lea Owens defeated Kimmy Herrock on court 3, 6-2, 6-0, and Brittany Boys took down Dylan Owens at No. 5, 6-4, 6-1, but the Dukes were able to hold on for the win with three-straight victories on courts 6, 1 and 4.
Gaby Owens rounded out the 4-3 score with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win on court 2 over Petersen.
The Spiders return to action on Friday, March 31, when they open Atlantic 10 play at Saint Joseph's. First serve in Philadelphia is set for 2:30 p.m.
