Sunday Sweep Pushes Spiders Win Streak To 15
03/27/2017 | Men's Tennis
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Sunday was yet another great day to be a Spider.
With beautiful weather taking over campus, the University of Richmond men's tennis stayed red hot with wins over Monmouth and Norfolk State to extend its program record-winning streak to 15.
The Spiders are now 16-2 on the year, haven't lost since January 21st and are just two wins away from tying the program record for total wins in a year.
“We talked all week about being tough and really want toughness meant. Our guys were able to bring that to the court today and get two good wins in front of the home crowd,” Head Coach Ben Johnson said. “I don't think we played our best tennis today, but we were able to battle through and do enough to come away with the victories.”
Junior Caleb Troy and redshirt freshman John Karlawish each picked up two singles victories on the day to lead the Spiders. Jacob Dunbar, James Aronson, Matt Fernandez, Brice Polender and Klein Evans all picked singles victories on the day.
Dunbar's 6-2, 6-2 win at #1 singles in the match against Norfolk State was the 98th of his career, 20 more than any other player in Richmond history.
The Spiders are back at home on Wednesday when they host A-10 and in-state rival George Mason. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
