10/01/2017 | Women's Soccer
FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team played to a draw in regulation for the fourth time this season, but was unable to keep host George Mason off the board in extra time, falling 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
After an evenly played first half that saw just seven total shots, Mason picked up the offensive pressure, totaling 13 shots in the second stanza. Senior goalkeeper Katie Brennan, along with a back line led by fellow seniors Alexis Pringle and Emily Drummond, kept the Patriots off of the board.
Mason nearly scored in the final second of regulation, but Brennan made a leaping save to send the game into overtime.
The Patriots' game winner came in the 97th minute on their 20th shot of the game, when Abby Downey sent an unassisted shot into the lower left corner of the goal.
The Spiders finished with seven shots on the day, while Mason held an 11-2 edge in corner kicks. Brennan finished with six saves in goal.
Richmond returns to A-10 action on Thursday, October 5, when they host George Washington in the first game of a three-game home stand. Kickoff at Robins Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
