LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond track and field team competed on the indoor track this week and cashed in some impressive performances from distance runners and sprinters alike.
A one-two finish highlighted the trip in the 3000m run led by Colleen Carney who claimed the top spot by a wide margin with a time 10:16.91, followed by Eryn Mills who galloped to a 10:32.80. The two sophomores were the lone Spiders to compete in the event and made the most of that opportunity.
Junior Amanda Corbosiero clocked in her own outstanding finish in the one mile run, racing to the second place spot with a time of 4:56.75, nearly chasing down the leader in the end. Shelby Cain finished sixth in that same event with a time of 5:05.19.
Haley Preschutti captured a third place finish in the 1000m run with a time of 2:59.38 followed closely by freshman Claire Brown who cruised to a fifth place finish (3:02.27) more than six seconds ahead of sixth place.
Maria Acosta continued her breakout campaign, this time in the 500m dash, collecting a second place finish with a time of 1:16.29. Fellow freshman Gabby Bowen finished 13th in the same event (1:33.11).
The field event individuals showed well as well. Bailey Gillespy finished seventh in the high jump, Sarah Timko collected a sixth-place finish in the pole vault and Alena McGonigle finished 25th in the shot put event.
